When did Cape Christian Preschool open?

Cape Christian Preschool opened its doors in August of 2009.

What hours is Cape Christian Preschool Open?

We are open from 7am to 6pm Monday thru Friday.  Please call for dates we will be closed during the year.

What ages does Cape Christian Preschool accept?

We are currently offering programs for children ages 18 months thru 5.  We also over VPK classes!

What is VPK and do you offer it?

VPK stands for Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten.  This is a government grant that is offered to ALL children who turn 4 by September 1, 2007 no matter the family income.  Our VPK for the 2011-2012 school year will run from 9am-12pm Monday thru Friday.  If your child is of VPK age please contact us for more information at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. What makes Cape Christian Preschools VPK program unique?

While all VPK approved schools must follow certain requirements, each program has their choice of which curriculum to use and how to assess their students.  At Cape Christian we will take an approach that encompasses the whole child including emotional, mental, physical, creative and spiritual growth.  Our curriculum is designed to address the fundamental needs of children in this age group and expands on this by including spiritual lessons and creative play.  Our curriculum is challenging, fun and fulfilling for little budding minds.

Will my child be able to read after VPK?

Every child is different, but it is our goal to have every child develop reading-readiness skills in our VPK program.  Some children will leave our facility and enter kindergarten able to read on day one, others will have gained the fundamental skills necessary to make the gentle transition from pre-reader to reader.

How does CCP's VPK rank compared to other VPK programs?

Each year students who graduate from VPK are then tested when they enter Kindergarten.  The scores from those assessments are then recorded and the results then help create a Kindergarten Readiness Rate Score for the school.  Cape Christian Preschool is VERY proud to boast a PERFECT score of 200!  This means that ALL of our former VPK class from the year before either met or exceeded the expectations of a child entering kindergarten!  GO CCP!!!

Do you require uniforms?

Children grow at such a fast rate in this age group that we have chosen to allow parents to choose what their child wears to school.  Preschool age children often express their unique personalities by their choices of clothing and we welcome this outlet for creative expression.  We do require close-toes shoes for safety reasons.

Will lunch be included?

We offer an exciting, nutritional menu for all of our students including breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack.  Meals are served family style and teachers eat with their students and engage in table conversation that broadens children’s vocabulary, introduces table manners and encourages positive social interaction.

What types of lunch will be offered?

Cape Christian Preschool stands out above the crowd by offering nutritious, yet kid-friendly meals.  We offer whole grain pastas and breads, fresh fruits and vegetables, minimally processed foods.  Many of our frozen vegetables are organic!  We offer a limited amount of juice in our facility and encourage drinking milk and water.  We feel strongly that what goes into a child’s tummy influences their growth, mental and physical development and ability to learn.  We want our students to understand where their food comes from and why it is important for us to protect our earth.  Students will gain an ongoing education of their food, nutrition, healthy living and sustainability that will influence their eating habits and lifestyles for a lifetime.

What about building security?

When searching for a preschool, safety should be a priority. We have invested heavily in a tried and true security system that includes key cards for access to any and every entrance.  To gain admittance to the classrooms, staff each have a key card that will only gain them access to whatever areas they are permitted to enter.  Even if the power is cut off, our system will keep everyone inside protected from the outside, but will allow anyone inside to exit the building whenever needed.

We also have video cameras in all classrooms, on the playground and in the hallways.  We also have the ability to keep three months worth of footage recorded.

Do you background check the teachers and staff?

All of our teachers and staff have completed a full FBI fingerprint and background check, an affidavit of Good Moral Character, and a local background check.  Our employment process is very selective and each of us employed by Cape Christian Preschool would trust, and often do, the care of our own children to our highly qualified, Christ-centered staff. Our staff are involved members of our church and are warm, familiar faces to our families.

What is the student to staff ratio?

The ratios for the classrooms depend on the age of the child and we firmly believe in the importance of small classes.  Lower ratios mean more individual care for each child and a much closer family atmosphere.

What is the school’s affiliation with Cape Christian?

We as a Church and a school operate as one body and hold ourselves up to the strong moral code outlined in the Church’s policies and beliefs.

Will there be a tuition discount for Cape Christian Members?

We are not offering a discount to Cape Christian Members.

Why should I send my child to preschool? Can’t I just get a babysitter?

Interactions between children at this young age help mold a child into who he or she will become.  Children who attend some form of group interaction tend to be more outgoing, more self-aware, and physically healthier later on in life.

What makes Cape Christian Preschool, a preschool and not a daycare?

Cape Christian is considered a preschool because from our youngest, to our oldest, each child is on a developmental pathway that needs to be nurtured and tended to.  We see our facility as an educative facility that goes far beyond a general daycare.  Our staff members are trained in Early Childhood learning and are passionate about engaging young minds in learning and experiencing all God has created for us.

What will my child learn during school?

All activities in our classrooms will be age appropriate and geared toward developing the gross and fine motor skills of your child.  We strive to excite your child’s social, cognitive and motor skills through a variety of learning experiences.  Our teachers are taught to realize and embrace the uniqueness that every child has to offer our world.

What about teaching Christian principles?

We reflect our beliefs as a Christian Preschool in our lessons, our interactions with our students, with our parents and with each other.  Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV) reads, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.”  This verse is the basis of which we will operate our school.  When we are filled with the fruits of the Spirit it is exemplified in our teaching and o ur interactions so that we will be fruitful in our efforts and outcomes.

What curriculum do we use?

The curriculum we have chosen for our Preschool is the Creative Curriculum.  The Creative Curriculum describes and demonstrates how to plan a developmentally appropriate program focusing on ten well-organized interest areas. Its underlying philosophy draws from Jean Piaget's work on cognitive development, Erik Erikson's stages of socio-emotional development, and accepted theories of how children learn best. The approach is practical, easy-to-understand, and focuses on what children are interested in learning at the time they show interest.  All lessons are submitted to the Preschool Director a minimum of two weeks before the lessons are taught to ensure quality of each lesson and skill.

What are the qualifications of your teachers?

All teachers are qualified, experienced professionals, each of them bringing their own talents and gifts to our school. Lead teachers each have a degree in education or related degree, or extensive training in the field of Early Childhood Education. Each teacher is required to keep current on Early Childhood education trends.
